How We Work:

We receive trees from various sources including commercial reforestation operations, nurseries and private donors.

The trees are often damaged, or otherwise unwanted. We recieve them and transplant them into large pots of good organic soil.

Then the trees are cared for by one of our volunteer foster gardeners.  Trees are kept for one or two seasons until they are growing vigourously.

Our outreach workers secure homes for the trees in urban neighbourhoods.

History:

RETREE ACTION NETWORK began in 2001 as the “Urban Air Initiative” which was a series of free tree give-aways aimed at increasing the number of trees in urban neighborhoods.

In 2003, we started working as Retree with the mandate to regreen exterior and interior spaces with the belief that more greenery increases air quality.

2007 began the process of incorporating Retree as a non-profit society with a mandate to promote regreening as a means to increase air quality. We gained our non-profit status in 2008.

Retree Action Network is a volunteer run organization and we are proud to work with nieghbourhoods, schools, parks and private property owners to plant hundreds of trees every year.
